Dental Crowns in ECR Chennai

A crown is a cap that covers a tooth completely — used when a tooth is cracked, heavily filled, worn down, or has had root canal treatment and needs protecting. Getting one to look right is a matter of shade, shape and margin, which is precisely what a prosthodontist trains in. Dr. Priya Dharshini, MDS (Prosthodontics) has spent sixteen years on exactly this work.

01 Choosing the Material

The Right Crown for the Right Tooth

A back molar taking heavy chewing load and a front incisor sitting in your smile line have different requirements. Zirconia is exceptionally strong; layered ceramic is more translucent and better for front teeth. Metal-ceramic still has its place. We match the material to the tooth rather than using one type for everything.

Zirconia for strength on back teeth
Layered ceramic for front-tooth translucency
Shade matched to the teeth beside it
Margins that keep the gum healthy

What We Offer

Every mouth is different. After examining you, Dr. Priya recommends the option that fits your case.

Zirconia Crowns

Very strong and metal-free, well suited to molars and to patients who grind.

Ceramic & E-max Crowns

Highly translucent, chosen where matching a natural front tooth convincingly matters most.

Crown After Root Canal

Wraps and protects a brittle root-treated tooth, preventing the fracture that would cost you the tooth.

Bridges

Where a tooth is missing, crowns on the neighbouring teeth can carry a replacement between them.

02 Getting It Right

Where Crowns Usually Go Wrong

Three things: a shade that does not match, a margin that irritates the gum, and a bite that is fractionally high. All three are avoidable with careful preparation and a proper try-in stage. We check the fit and the bite before anything is cemented permanently, because a crown you dislike is expensive to redo.

Try-in and shade check before cementing
Bite adjusted precisely
Temporary crown while yours is made
Digital scanning where suitable

Dental Crowns — Frequently Asked Questions

How long does a crown last?
With good oral hygiene and routine reviews, well-made crowns commonly last ten to fifteen years or more. The crown itself does not decay, but the tooth underneath still can — which is why the margin and your brushing matter.
How many appointments does it take?
Usually two: one to prepare the tooth and take the impression, and one to fit the finished crown. You wear a temporary crown in between, so you are never left with a visible gap.
Will it look like my other teeth?
That is the aim, and it is largely about material choice and shade matching. For front teeth we take particular care over translucency and surface texture, because a crown that is too opaque reads as false even at the right colour.
Crown or veneer — which do I need?
A crown covers the whole tooth and is for teeth that are structurally weakened. A veneer covers only the front surface and is for appearance where the tooth is otherwise sound. See our veneers page for the comparison.
Does getting a crown hurt?
The tooth is numbed for the preparation, so the appointment itself is comfortable. Some sensitivity while wearing the temporary crown is normal and settles once the permanent one is fitted.
